DEPUTY SHERIFF LATERAL APPLICATION
Applications for Lateral Transfer Police Officers are accepted on a continuing basis.
Applicants must be 21 years old, a U.S. Citizen, have a high school diploma, good moral character, sound health, and no felony convictions. You must be able to read and write the English language, must possess valid driver’s license without recent record of suspension or revocation in any state.
You must have a minimum of six months as a full time sworn police officer and have completed the basic police training program accepted by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
Residency is required in Tazewell County by the completion of the one year probation period. Applicants from a previous police department must have left in good standing within six months of application for hire with Tazewell County Sheriff Office.
Applicants must pass examinations the Tazewell County Merit Commission deem necessary to determine the applicant’s fitness for duty as a Tazewell County Deputy.
This includes a polygraph test, psychological test, and interview with the Tazewell County Merit Commission.
Lateral Transfer Police Officers hired will start at an annual salary of $64.182.21. Lateral hires will be eligible for educational bonuses annually, paid vacations, holidays, personal days, sick leave negotiated by the P.B.P.A. contract. Lateral hires and their dependents are eligible for county health, dental, vision and life insurance plans. Lateral hires will be enrolled in a pension plan through IMRF.

The following is a schedule of the testing procedures administered by the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Merit Commission for applicants applying for the position of Deputy Sheriff with the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Department.
